THE RECIPE FOR LIFE

Even though its difficult for us to comprehend, God had every one of us in mind in eternity past. God is omniscient, and He knew everything about us as individuals … He chose the family into which we would be born, the color of our skin, and the geographical location where we would live.

In Psalm 8:3, 4, King David expressed his thoughts about our awesome God when he said, “When I consider the heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him?” Also, Job had a similar thought when he asked the Lord: “What is man that causes You to consider him and test him?” (Job 7:17, 18)

The Recipe for Life is found in God’s Word … the Bible. The instructions for following it apply to every man, woman and child who has ever been or ever will be born into this world. Before we can begin, we must KNOW and UNDERSTAND that God formed the first man, Adam, from the dust of the earth and then breathed into his nostrils the breath of lives, and man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7) Adam had both soul life and spiritual life before he sinned. Each one of us was formed in our mother’s womb, and when we emerged from the womb, God placed a soul into our body. At the exact time of our birth, we became physically alive, but we were spiritually dead … we could have no fellowship with God. We inherited Adam’s sin nature which he acquired when he disobeyed God and ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The apostle Paul stated this fact in Romans 5:12: “Wherefore, as by one man, sin entered into the world and death by sin, and so spiritual death passed upon all men, because we all sinned when Adam sinned. Adam didn’t die physically for many years after he sinned, but he lost his fellowship with God when he died spiritually.

We must KNOW and UNDERSTAND that God decides the length of our lives. In Psalm 90:10, Moses said, “The days of our years are threescore and ten, and if by reason of strength they are fourscore years, yet their strength involves labor and sorrow; for life is soon cut off, and we fly away.” Again, in Psalm 90:12, Moses asked the Lord, “So teach us to number our days so we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” (wisdom is the application of Bible Doctrine to life’s experiences)

We must KNOW and UNDERSTAND that each one of us will reach a time in our life when we will have God-consciousness. At that time we must exercise our free will to either desire to know God or to reject information given to us about Him. Paul tells us in Romans 1:19, 20 that no one has an excuse for not getting to know God, because in every individual He places a desire to know Him. The invisible things of the world are clearly seen and able to be understood by man … even God’s eternal power and deity.

How can a person get to know God? “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17) As long as we are alive, God the Holy Spirit will make many attempts to present the way of salvation to us, which is ‘FAITH ALONE IN CHRIST ALONE’. If people add anything like baptism, tithing, keeping the Mosaic Law, etc, they are committing blasphemy against the GRACE of God. Jesus Christ paid the penalty for ALL the sins of the entire world when He died on the cross more than 2,000 years ago. Nothing can be added to His work!

God is not willing that anyone should perish, but that we all should come to repentance … that is, have a change of mind about Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 3:9) Jesus is indeed God, but He had to become true, sinless humanity in order to die for our sins … He is God and man in one Person forever.

When a person believes in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior, he is said to be ‘born again’, and he is a brand new creature with a brand new destiny. He is a newborn babe who needs to feed on the milk of God’s WORD as he begins to grow up spiritually.
(1 Peter 2:2) The prophet Isaiah said the child of God must be gradually weaned from milk and gain knowledge and understanding from the WORD in order to become mature.
(Isaiah 28: 9, 10)

Believers are left in this world to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to represent the Lord as His ambassador to a lost and dying world. The apostle Paul said we have been given the ministry of reconciliation … that is to tell others that sin is no longer an issue between God and man, because Jesus paid the penalty for the sins of the entire world when He died on the cross more than 2,000 years ago. (2 Corinthians 5:18-20)

The moment we were born, our name was written in the Book of Life. If we die without having believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, our name is blotted out of the Book of Life and placed in the Book of Works. At the final judgment, all unbelievers will stand before God at the Great White Throne Judgment and be judged for their human good works, which are never acceptable to God. “And whoever was not found written in the Book of Life will be cast into the Lake of Fire with the devil and his angels.”
(Revelation 20:11-15)

“He that believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who believes not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36)
